GCSE in electronics
What is a GCSE in electronics?
A GCSE in electronics is one of the key stage 4 science subjects that meets some elements of the science programme of study.
GCSE electronics should:
- enable students to become confident citizens in a technological world and able to take or develop an informed interest in matters relating to electronics
- promote an awareness that the study and practice of electronics are subject to social, economic, technological, aesthetic, ethical and cultural influences and limitations
- provide, through well-designed studies of experimental and practical electronics, a worthwhile educational experience for all, whether or not students are intending to study electronics beyond GCSE level
- encourage sufficient knowledge and understanding to prepare students for studies beyond the GCSE in electronics and/or in electronics-dependent vocational courses in applied science
- encourage students to appreciate that the applications of electronics may be both beneficial and detrimental to the individual, the community and the environment
- encourage the acquisition of a body of knowledge of solving practical/technological problems through processes of analysis, synthesis and realisation
- stimulate the development of curiosity, interest and enjoyment of electronics.
