Home   Ages 3-14

QCA keeps the national curriculum for England under review and leads on its development. We set the standards for children’s learning from the age of 3 to 14.

From 3 to 5, children experience the foundation stage. From 5 to 14 they move through primary school and into the first years of secondary education. The national curriculum ensures that learning is progressive and measurable. QCA’s role in maintaining standards and developing the curriculum and assessment ensures that these important years develop childrens’ abilities and talents and give them the skills for life-long learning.

The foundation stage was introduced as a distinct phase of education for children aged 3-5 in September 2000.

From the age of five to fourteen the national curriculum provides a structured and assessed education through key stages.

Assessment for Learning is the process of seeking and interpreting evidence for use by learners and their teachers to decide where the learners are in their learning, where they need to go and how best to get there.
